๐Ÿ›Ž [TBB #191] The true significance of AI tools

Last week I went to a Digital Health New York event. The panel discussion was dedicated to Clinical AI in Healthcare. I wrote about my impressions of the event and the discussion here.

But a week later, I am finally able to distill my main takeaway from the impact of AI on healthcare, and more importantly mental health.

The true value that AI tools bring to this space is not speed of execution, and not quick data synthesis. I also don't believe that it will be a replacement for therapists, despite providing ease of access.

All of these benefits are real but they're not what makes these tools a disruptor. The true value is the depth of insight that AI tools enable us to have and unlock; better pattern recognition so we can make better decisions. In short, it allows us to access a higher level of our own professional abilities.

You may be thinking "That's great, but is it really relevant to a private practice owner?"

Absolutely, here's why.

Every time I work with a practice owner I ask them to describe the exact words their clients use when they begin therapy. Inevitably, everyone lands on this answer:

"My clients tell me: Why do I keep doing X? What's wrong with me?"

As humans we have a yearning to understand things better, and more importantly, understand ourselves. And while we can already look at many datapoints available, AI can spot patterns and synthesize information better and quicker than any of us.

In turn, we can offer a more nuanced and higher-quality service. That's the value.

But that's not all. Because of this, we as professionals, can make better decisions and better judgement calls to solve problems. For therapists, this can translate into a higher level of care and a deeper understanding of your clients.

In my own work, it means being able to identify the right business problems before jumping into tactics or tools. Without bleeding therapists' budgets dry with more ads, I can help them become the obvious choice in a competitive market.

If that's the level of insight you need now, email me and let's talk.
