NOTES FROM THE EDITOR

Overthinking

Today's issue was inspired by this quote:

"Every time you hesitate, someone less talented takes your spot."

Posted by Dr. Julie Gurner on LinkedIn, it got me thinking about well... overthinking.

As an over-thinker myself, I empathize with my clients who battle with self-doubt when it comes to taking action for marketing their practice. I also understand those who choose not to work with me, because they worry about investing and possibly not seeing a return.

But just because I understand where it's coming from, doesn't mean I agree with it.

In the past 8 years, I've observed that it's not a specific strategy or a marketing method that fills people's practice, but consistent and deliberate action.

Don't get me wrong, action without direction can be frustrating and ineffective, but it's still better than not taking action at all. If for no other reason than showing you what's not working.

Building Business Confidence

I used to think that confidence in business comes from a certain knowledge or skill. I spent years in pursuit of this knowledge but it didn't make me feel more confident. Validated maybe, but in my eyes only.

But once I started acting and applying what I learned in the real world, my worldview changed. Suddenly, it didn't feel as intimidating to invest in growing my business.

Since then, I've never regretted trying something, even if it didn't work as I hoped. I found, that taking action is an antidote to overthinking.

Start Today

When I coach my clients, my goal is to give them clarity, direction, and new skills, but that's not all. I want them to take immediate action with specific steps they can take after each session.

I also nudge them, lovingly of course, to make sure they don't let self doubt creep in and stop them from moving forward.

Today, I want to do the same for you. Here are a few simple steps you can take this Friday afternoon, pick one:

  • Draft and schedule 3 LinkedIn posts
  • Reach out to a referral partner you haven't talked to in a while
  • Re-write your about page for your website
  • Ask your colleagues for a Google Business Profile review
  • Write a script for your intake calls.

Which one will you choose today?

Reply with your answer if you're open to sharing. I'd love to know.

And now to the news!

P.S. If you want my help building simple marketing systems that consistently attract private-pay clients, let's chat.

NOTEWORTHY

AI Adoption and Burnout on the Rise

Ensora Health’s Future of Therapy 2025 report found that 40% of therapists are using AI tools for scheduling, notes, and client intake. Still, 82% report burnout, with one-third calling it severe. The top culprits: low compensation, insurance frustrations, and administrative overload.

Why it matters: Even as therapists embrace AI for efficiency, the data shows that technology can’t solve systemic burnout without ethical, human-centered systems behind it.

BUSINESS AND PRIVATE PRACTICE

Insurance Reimbursement Reality Check

A new analysis from TheraThink reveals that average insurance reimbursement rates for therapists hover between $70–$100 per session, far below private-pay fees. Rates vary by location, license, and network demand.

Why it matters: With such thin margins, more therapists are reassessing the value of staying on insurance panels and exploring hybrid or private-pay models for sustainability.

INDUSTRY NEWS

Rehab Therapy’s Tech Tipping Point

New data from nearly 600 rehab therapy practices show the sector rapidly adopting connected, automated tools to improve efficiency and patient outcomes.

Why it matters: The same wave of tech-driven efficiency is reshaping mental health — a reminder that automation can enhance care only when guided by human insight and ethical boundaries.
