NOTES FROM THE EDITOR

Lean in to humanity

"Soon enough we'll all be out of our jobs..."

This was a joke made during one of my recent Q&A sessions in the REdD Academy Network community.

We kind of laughed about, but let's be honest, the fear is not totally unfounded. Many tasks, especially the ones that have to do with communication, can be outsourced to AI already.

We can free ourselves from the tediousness of summarizing and editing text, as well as writing altogether. You can have full conversations with ChatGPT about anything, therapy and marketing included.

So why would someone pay us for our services?

Because that's not all we do. Part of our humanity lies in our ability to connect, to read nuance, to notice what isn’t said, and to bring experience and empathy into the work.

The quality of our work depends on these things and more.

Sure, there will be some that can't afford quality, and they'll have to turn to a chatbot. But the clients who value depth, insight, and real human presence will keep choosing you.

I don't think that AI can replace these things, at least not yet. That's why I think that we shouldn't avoid it or compete with it. Instead, use it to enhance your workflow, your creative process, your clarity. Tools like Quill and others can free up your brain space so you can show up as the highly skilled practitioner that you are.

Lean in to your humanity. That’s the part they’re really paying for.

πŸ“° And now to the news!

NOTEWORTHY

Unemployment's Hidden Tolls

A new report looks at the mental health impact of long-term unemployment. Especially the loss of confidence and sense of purpose that can come with it.

If your clients are navigating job loss or career transitions, this one's worth a glance.

BUSINESS AND PRIVATE PRACTICE

Chatbots Under Supervision

Generative AI tools are popping up in mental health care, and early research says they might help. But without human supervision, the risks are still too high.

A good reminder that your role as a real human clinician isn’t going anywhere.

INDUSTRY NEWS

Compassionate AI

New research is exploring how to better integrate mental health services into primary care settings.

This kind of model could shift how we collaborate with other providers, and where future referrals come from.

FINAL THOUGHTS

This week's issue was dedicated to human connection, and why it matters now more than ever.

The technology is changing fast, too fast. But the work that you do still relies on presence, trust, and insight.

This is a reminder (for you and me) to not let the noise distract you. Use the tools. Stay curious. But lead with your humanity.

What part of your work feels most human right now?
Let me know by replying to this email, I'd love to know.

See you next week,

Avivit
